Color Definitions

Hue: A shade of a color.

Chroma: A color quality involving hue and saturation.  The purity or intensity of a color.


Tint: A small amount of color.


Tone: The effect of painting in light and shade together using color.


Shade: A quality of color that is different from another color.


Complimentary Colors: Colors that are opposite of each other on the color wheel.  Can make white light in the right proportions.


Analogous Colors: Colors that are adjacent to each other.


Contrasting Colors: Another term for complementary colors, colors placed opposite each other on the color wheel.


Texture: The feel of a object or surface.


Graphic Design Principles: Ideas that can help graphic designers in the process of making their art


Balance: They way elements are arranged.


Symmetry: 
When one side of an object is like a mirror image of the other side.
